Cheapest month to fly to Asia from the US: seasons, festivals and fares

Updated October 24, 2026

Asia is not one market. Japan, Korea, Thailand and India each have their own busy seasons, and fares from the US follow them. The cheapest month for one country can be an expensive month for another, so the pattern varies by destination.

Why one answer does not fit all of Asia

Fares respond to two things: demand from US travelers and demand on the other end, including local holidays and the weather. A rainy season can lower fares and also lower your odds of good weather.

Common high-demand periods

  • Cherry blossom season in Japan (around late March to April) and autumn leaves (around November).
  • Lunar New Year, in January or February, when travel across the region surges.
  • Golden Week in Japan (late April to early May) and national holidays in China, Korea and others.
  • US summer and the winter holidays, when many travelers have time off.

Often lower-demand periods

Fares are often lower in the weeks after Lunar New Year and in parts of the rainy or hot season, for example much of the summer monsoon period in South and Southeast Asia. This varies by route, and a lower fare can come with weather risk.

Risks and trade-offs

  • Typhoon and monsoon seasons can disrupt flights and sightseeing.
  • Long trips usually include a connection, so a delay can cause a missed onward flight.
  • Entry rules and visas vary by country and change; check the official government source before you buy.
