Cheapest month to fly to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean
Updated October 24, 2026
Beach destinations to the south have a clear busy season in winter and spring, and a cheaper but riskier stretch in late summer and fall. Knowing the trade-off helps you pick dates that match your tolerance for weather risk.
High season
From about December to April the weather is dry and mild, and fares and hotel rates are usually at their highest, especially around Christmas, New Year and spring break.
Lower-demand months
- May and early June, and then the late summer and fall, often show lower fares.
- September and October are commonly among the lowest months for Caribbean routes.
- Mexico City and inland destinations behave differently from beach resorts, since altitude gives them a milder climate.
The hurricane season risk
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with activity usually peaking from August to October. A storm can cancel flights and close resorts. Travel insurance rules vary, and policies often exclude storms that were already named when you bought them, so read the terms before you buy.
Practical tips
- Choose flexible fare rules when you travel in hurricane season.
- Fly earlier in the day, which leaves room to rebook on the same day if a flight is canceled.
- Check each country's entry requirements and passport validity rules.
